If you were to ever visit Mangalore, do visit “Shetty Lunch Home” and taste some authentic Manglorean seafood dishes. They are famous for many dishes and Kane Masala Fry is one of them. Though the recipe is their trade secret, we present to you in this blog a version quite close.
Ingredients
- Kane/Ladyfish – 2 nos
- Chilli powder – 2 tbsp
- Hing ( Asofoetida ) – 1 tsp
- Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
- Tamarind – 1 (lemon sized ball)
- Coconut Oil – 2 Tbsp
Method
- Clean and wash the fish well.
- Soak the tamarind in warm water and extract its juice. To this add half the chilli powder and hing.
- Marinate the fish for a couple of hours with this mix.
- In another bowl mix the remaining chilli powder and lemon juice. Set aside.
- In a pan, heat coconut oil.
- Shallow fry the marinated fish for 2-3 minutes on one side.
- Then turn the fish over, add the chilli and lemon juice mix and continue frying the fish until it is well cooked.
